I've been having some trouble taming my conure, Henry. No matter what I try he insists on biting my finger whenever I get to close. The longest I've gone with out him viciously attempting to bite me is one week. I try to make every interaction pleasant by giving him millet whenever I go near his cage but I don't think I'm getting through to him. He's too stubborn for his own good.
I'm just wondering if anyone would be able to help me with something. First, the info: I bought a 3month old Yellow Sided Conure (see gallery) about 6ish months ago, which makes him 9months now. When I bought him, his wings had already been clipped. I have taken him to the Vet to see if they'd been cut too short and he assured me they hadn't ...
So my question is, how long does/should it take for the primary wing feathers to fall out and grow back? It's been 6 months ... I'm keen to train him!!
There is plenty of training you can do even without clipped wings! The wings grow back (I believe) after they molt so twice a year. You should be able to see if the wing still has a straight clipped look or if it has new feathers grown in and the old cut ones have fallen out!
Oh ok ... Cos I was being told they should grow back about 2-3 months lol ... The wing feather that hadn't been cut haven't fallen out yet either, so I guess I'm being too impatient
